I am writing to let you know about our experience with Tutor Doctor. My son is in grade 9 and had some challenges in his English and Math classes, during the first term. My husband and I felt that he would greatly benefit with some extra help in the way of tutoring. Once we started searching for tutoring services, we found most places were very rigid in their options. We knew we wanted to have someone come into our home, as opposed to having our son go back into a classroom setting. In my search on the internet, I discovered the Tutor Doctor website. I sent a message to find out more about their services. I was pleased to have a response by the very next day. Todd Weagle, the franchise owner and education consultant, for the Halifax area, arranged an initial consultation. During the consultation, our son was assessed to find out where his challenges were, as well as, his personality type. We are very happy with our experience to date with our son’s tutor, Ryan. We were not sure what to expect when we signed on, but Ryan is very conscientious and relates extremely well with our son, Bryce. They have really made a connection. As far as some feedback regarding Jeff tutoring, I will say that it is going very well! Olivia has warmed up to Jeff a lot. I moved to Calgary in August 2009, excited about starting my MSc in Respiratory Sciences at the University of Calgary. However, I was also quite apprehensive about living in a new city, thousands of kilometres away from my family in Toronto. I began looking for additional opportunities of employment, keen on seeking a position in education or tutoring; I have extensive experience working with children and youths, and so I wanted to capitalize on my skills and interests. That is so great about Kylie. She's been such a great student right from the start. It truly helps that her mom is behind her 110% and the whole family is lots of fun. Dear Alex, Jonathan and I had a very useful and informative meeting with Emma last week. It was very interesting to get her feedback on Cameron's tuition.She confirmed our thoughts that although Cameron still has some weaknesses in the "maths learning ladder" he has been making very good progress. Although perhaps not yet an automatic process, Cameron is beginning to grasp the concept of numbers and is applying the methods he knows to solve a variety of tasks in numeracy. Cameron's school has also noted an improvement and identified that his confidence with numbers is growing. To give Cameron the bestchance of achieving his potential, wehave decidedto movehim to a private school which specialises in helping boys who have experienced learning difficulties. We think he will benefit greatly from the smaller class sizes and more personal attention. In order not to overload him and allow him some time to adjust we have therefore decided to discontinue his private tuition at least for the time being and we will review the situation once he has had time to settle. We will ask Emma to continue until Easter and once she has sent her final invoice to you, perhaps you would letus know what we owe you since our last payment. Thank you so much for "finding" Emma for us. She has been a perfect fit for Cameron and her tuition has resulted in an incredible boost to his confidence in numeracy. Dear Robin: I cannot tell you how thrilled we are at the success Phil Gordon has had with our daughter Ethne. You found us the perfect "match" on the first try! In the few brief months since Phil became Ethne's tutor, her grades in both academics and discipline have gone up. Her attitude towards school and homework has turned around 180 degrees. She looks forward to his appearance in our home every week. History has come alive for her and she looks upon it as the great story it's meant to be. Phil is an extraordinary human being. Hi Steve, All is going well. Kelley is great and the boys seem to getting better grades in algebra. I now need a reading specialist for our kindergartner.... Can we use some of our hours to do that as well? I am thinking 1 hour a week would be good. We could cut back to 2 hours a week of algebra and add 1 hour for a reading and writing help for the 5 year old. Is that doable?

Hi Robin, We are very pleased with Ricardo and with Zoe's progress! She has had two tests that she has scored 100% on! She is much more confident in her ability as well. Ricardo is really great with her- she was excited about getting her first scientific calculator and he even helped her figure it out. Her teacher just returned on Monday and she will have her first test with him on Friday. I want to see how she does on that test and give her another week with him before we schedule a meeting. Hi Jennifer, I just wanted to give you some feedback on Kiran. She is great with Kale. After his first session he wrote an exam and got an ‘A’!! The teacher asked him how he did that and he told him and his classmates about Kiran. She has a lovely way to explain things to Kale, she is patient and kind to him. He is happy to meet with her and will focus very well over the whole hour. He feels much more confident with math now. He prepares also for when Kiran comes so he knows what he needs to go over with her. Thank you for choosing her to be his tutor. I felt I should share this with you.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for checking in. I apologize that I haven’t gotten back to you until now. Work has been crazy busy. The BNI representative called me last week while I was in Calgary and I just haven’t had a chance to get back in touch. I will get to her by the end of the day. Julie is amazing. Zach has connected well with her and you can see a change in his confidence. His work ethic has improved and he is following through with the suggestions that she is giving to him. He says he learns more in one hour with Julie than he does in one day of class time. Your tutors are obviously screened properly and really value the learning process. This has been a much different experience than the tutor we had in grade 6 with Academic Advantage. The fact that we receive regular updates after each session provides valuable information on what he is working on and how he is progressing. It also assures me that the tutor/student relationship and progress is being monitored which we did not see with the organization we went with before. Zach has two tests this week. It will be interesting to see the results. He seems completely prepared as Julie has been working on the two subjects with him. Let’s hope the confidence boost continues on and drives away the test anxiety he usually experiences. At least I know that he is mastering the material which is a huge first step. It is great to hear from you. Let me know how things are going on your end. I am sure that business must be getting busier and busier. Enjoy the day.

Hi Roxanne, Everything is going well here. We just got back from San Diego and had a great time - even in Legoland. My vote was for Paris, but the boys won in a landslide. Things seems to be going really well with Matt and Mary. We've noticed big improvements in his English reading and he is regularly picking up books to read independently. His teacher has noticed him improving so we are going in the right direction. I'm really glad you suggested Mary as she and Matt seem to be a great fit together. I think we are on the 'slow and steady' path and Mary has lots of great ideas.

Hi, Jennifer: Both girls enjoy their time with Maryna. I believe Noelle is showing great improvement with her math skills and her willingness to complete her homework or accept help from her parents! has increase, too! Lindsay, doesn't believe she needs tutoring but I can see she likes her time spent with Maryna and is picking us additional skills, even if she doesn't know it. Maryna is very nice and accommodating to our schedule (we had to move our Thursday session to Wed next week, so that Lindsay could compete in tap competition) and we appreciate that. So, I believe everything is going well.

I did want to let you know that things are working out beautifully with Jeff Deline. Calum really enjoys him and responds well to his teaching/tutoring style. They share an intense interest in Star Wars, and at the end of tutoring sessions Jeff rewards Calum for a good session by doing Star Wars trivia questions with him. Calum’s grade in math has gone from a C on the last report card to a B on the most recent report card, and he is feeling happier about school in general with his success in math.

News bulletin, Earleen received her report card and it had grades from 95 to an 82!!! Mom wasn't home, but dad said he loved it. 'Best report she has had'. Hoorah for tutordr!!!! I’m great, thanks for asking. Alex also seems to be making great strides with Theresa. She recently memorized all her multiplication tables using the flashcards that Theresa created for her. She is very proud of herself. We actually missed one session with Theresa that we still haven’t made up yet. But in any case, I’d like to touch base with Alexandra’s teacher to see how she assesses her progress before making a decision on future tutoring. In either case, it’s been a wonderful experience for Alexandra. Thanks.
Hi Robin, I'm just writing to share my excitement. Marissa's grade improved from F to C, and she is now only a few points below B. She was very happy yesterday after her teacherparent conference. Her mom said her teacher was impressed, too. I am happy that I was able to help Marissa improve her grade that significantly in a short time :)

Hi Robin, Yes Marissa currently has a high "C", almost a "B" in her geometry class. Her teacher was happy and said the tutoring seems to be working for her. She had a fail on the last report card and has already brought it up to the current grade as of yesterday at Open House. The section she is currently on is a real struggle for her and she had a quiz this morning so we shall see how her prep with Mane helped her... but we are very happy with her progress! Robin, Thank you so much for sending us Theresa. Our daughter used to loathe math, she felt that it was not a subject she is good at. All of that has changed after a month of working with Theresa. Who could have predicted that she would be looking forward to doing 2 additional hours of math every week & be excited about it, but she is. She has just been accepted into an honors program for the highly gifted for next year, something we were hoping for but not sure of. We're simply thrilled with her accomplishments. She is now telling us that she is bored in math class at school because she already knows the material & its easy. "Easy" is not a word she ever used to describe math before. We have now committed to continuing with you program for a year - next year will be challenging, but with the support of your tutors we're sure she is going to do well.
Hi Andy, Sorry it's taken me so long to get to this, but further to our telecon early last week I can report that Penny and I are both really pleased with Jenna. Besides being friendly, super knowledgeable and conscientious (always on time & great at communicating if we need to reschedule), Penny says that she is "actually learning Biology now." She scored in the 99th percentile on the OLSAT test, which qualifies her to participate in the lottery for citywide G&T schools (Anderson, NEST, TAG) as well as the District 3 G&T programs. Of course, we've already put down a deposit for Trinity, but with $$$ signs dancing in our heads, we'll do the lottery as well. I'm kind of biased against the DOE (okay, very biased), but we'll play it out and make a decision when we have to (I've also already bought some Trinity uniforms . . . they were on sale. LOL).
